What Enhanced DBS includes – and what employers still decide

Optional read-aloud in your browser (UK English when available).

What an Enhanced DBS check covers in practice, what Abrams includes in the service price, and the decisions that remain with the employer.

Care employer desk with laptop and DBS paperwork folder — illustrative

An Enhanced DBS check is the highest standard Disclosure and Barring Service check commonly used for roles that involve close work with children or vulnerable adults. It returns criminal-record information at a deeper level than Basic or Standard checks – but it does not by itself decide whether someone is suitable to hire or deploy.

Employers still choose the right check level for the role, interpret the certificate, and meet their own safer-recruitment and competency duties. Abrams provides a full-service application path with the official DBS fee included in the Abrams price shown – we do not publish separate official fee amounts on marketing pages.

What Enhanced typically covers

In plain terms, Enhanced checks look at a wider set of information than Basic or Standard. Depending on the role, barred-list checks may also apply. For authoritative definitions and eligibility, use the primary GOV.UK DBS guidance rather than informal summaries.

Useful starting point: GOV.UK – Disclosure and Barring Service.

What Abrams handles in the service

  • Guided application handling through our DBS process (including Matrix workflow where used).
  • All-in Abrams pricing that includes the current official DBS fee in the price you see on the product page.
  • Clear product choices for Basic, Standard, Enhanced, and volunteer paths.

Abrams is not the Disclosure and Barring Service. We help organisations and individuals complete eligible applications through the proper channels.

What employers still decide

  • Whether the role is eligible for Enhanced (or Standard / Basic) under current rules.
  • Whether barred-list checks are required for that post.
  • How to weigh certificate content alongside references, interviews, and role risk.
  • Ongoing workforce checks, training, and supervision after clearance.
